No.2 Boys' House
Boys in No.2 feel that they are not a ‘specialist’ house, but that they do specialise in welcoming and encouraging people with all manner of skills and talents and all are treated equally, from the Chopin- playing, philosophy-loving academic to the lumbering Welsh rugby fanatic! The atmosphere in No.2 is one of comfort, fun and purpose; boys are comfortable with themselves and make their friends in an environment where everyone gives 100% and has fun along the way. There is a sense of success in teamwork which the boys enjoy so much.
Bert Lacey says, “My philosophy is that it is not my House but the boys’ House. I welcome boys who will add to the richness of the place and, even as young as they are, assume some share of the responsibility for keeping the place ‘ship-shape’, working alongside each other with no barriers generated by year group, age or position.”

James Eaton (No.2) through to England Schools National Championships 2008 at Gateshead
James
Eaton (No.2), County Schools and Open Champion in the 400m Hurdles and
110m Hurdles, recently competed in the Midlands Championships in the
110m Hurdles at the Alexandra Stadium Birmingham. Competing against
some of the top UK U/20 athletes, he achieved a personal best time of
15.37 seconds which raised his ranking in the UK in the U/20 men from
40th to 25th and 7th UK in his age group. This week James was chosen
by the English Schools County selectors to represent Hereford and
Worcestershire in the 110m Senior Hurdles at the England Schools
National Championships at Gateshead on the 11th and 12th July. These
championships represent what has recently been called the ‘Schools'
Youth Olympics’ - with over 1700 athletes competing over two days.
This year SKY TV will be broadcasting both field and track events live,
together with the opening ceremony for 4 hours in the afternoon on
Saturday 12th July.
Information about the event can be found on the ESAA web site http://www.esaa.net/

New Year, activities
The New Year has been frenetic in No.2 with the numerous trial examinations and coursework deadlines, sporting competitions, university offers to ponder over and Ledder training. There has hardly been a moment to spare. The House, though, has been fortunate to purchase – through the donations made by parents to House funds – a brand new ‘Concept II’ rowing machine for the boys to use and (most popular of all) a super pool table. Both acquisitions have gone down extremely well with all the boys and, thanks to Mr Jackson, a giant pool competition is now under way with the prospect of a big greasy pizza for the winner!
Not just a sporty house…
Recent weeks have seen No.2 continuing to thrive on the academic front. In the house tradition of combining work and sport, Head of School Daniel Goldblatt and Oxford hopeful Adrian Huber, have been working well together for the House as well as on their studies. In the Hart General Knowledge quiz, the pair, joined by Charlie Fenwick and Rory Campbell, convincingly won the trophy at a packed final. This was soon followed by Dan and Adrian beating all challengers in the school Debating cup. At an individual level Dan has also now won through to the last 40 of the National debating competition.
