No.3 Girls' House
Fiona Packham became Housemistress of No.3 in September 2006. Fiona teaches Chemistry throughout the school and admits to finding the contrast between running the house and teaching in a Chemistry laboratory invigorating. Fiona’s husband Keith has recently been appointed Director of Drama, which keeps him busy but does not stop him enjoying his attachment to No.3 as a House Tutor.
Fiona and Keith have two children. Their daughter is studying Drama at Manchester University and their son is making the most of his time at Malvern College Preparatory School and is often found eating toast at tea time with ‘the big girls’! “The girls have made our transition to Malvern very easy and it is a wonderful place to live and to work. It was certainly an excellent decision to come here and we feel we have all been made extremely welcome.”

Autumn Term in No. 3
It has been a busy start to the Autumn Term in No. 3. We said our goodbyes to the very successful U6th as they moved on to Gaps years and University life – we hope they will come and visit whenever they are nearby!
We welcomed 18 new students into the FY, Remove and L6th. Everyone appears to have settled in well and they have adapted quickly to the busy life that is Malvern College during term time.
The No. 3 girls have had some really pleasing successes recently with House events. The FY created a superb team spirit and won the Ferrets’ Race – with Emily Lister coming second in the Girls’ Race – a marvellous achievement.
Many of the girls spent a number of hours rehearsing the No.3 entry for the House singing competition. Rachel ( our music rep.) was wonderfully composed throughout the whole experience and she did not allow the times when things were not going too well to get her down. The whole event was great fun, of a very high standard and the No. 3 choir were so pleased to come home victorious! The House celebrated in style with pizza and lots of laughter.
The Juniors enjoyed a wonderful Lower School Ball and the School Council created a superb venue in the Theatre. It was a lovely occasion and the Seniors are now very much looking ahead to the CVS Ball in November.
Many of the girls in No. 3 have been selected to play for County teams, but special mention must go to Phoebe who has been selected to represent the County in Lacrosse, Hockey and Netball! An incredible achievement.
The Inter House Hockey competition was closely fought once again this year. No. 3 girls acquitted themselves admirably this year, reaching the finals in both the Senior and Junior events. The head-to-head clash with old rivals No. 4 turned into a titanic sporting struggle of epic proportions! As the full-time whistle sounded, all was square, with no score from either team. However, No.4 were the victors due to their overall score – a very exciting match and congratulations to No. 4. In the Junior event the competition was equally exciting and fortunately the outcome of this match was that No. 3 was victorious, the girls all played superbly and the atmosphere on the side line was electric right up until the final whistle!
The girls now eagerly await the House Swimming competition later this term.

House Singing Competition
The girls of No.3 performed their entry in this year’s House Singing Competition with commitment, poise and panache. Upper sixth student Ciara Wilder had specially arranged the chosen song – ‘Kiss the Girl’ by Menken and Ashman. Ciara and Anna Heller expertly drilled the girls over the course of three weeks, snatching rehearsal times during the normal routine hours of the school day. The four-part harmony created by the girls was noted with admiration by the adjudicator, who described Number 3’s presentation as an example of a ‘true ensemble performance’. The entire house was thrilled to learn that their entry had been judged 3rd in the competition.
Celebration ensued back at the House as the performers were treated to a congratulatory pizza or two! Mrs Packham sent a big thank you to all those girls who participated and represented House 3 with such style, and particularly to Ciara and Anna for their musical direction.
