Opening of the Carson Centre
The College has formally opened its new £2.4 million state-of-the-art
teaching facility.
Hugh Carson, Headmaster of Malvern College from January 1997 to his
retirement in August 2006, unveiled the new Carson Centre to assembled
guests, parents, and pupils in front of the original Pavilion Block.
The building has now been extended to include fifteen new classrooms
and an IT suite. In addition, the seven original classrooms have been
refurbished. The 1350 m2 (13500 sq ft) space also includes three
assistant teaching spaces and two offices.
Hugh Carson said: “It gives me great pleasure to return to Malvern
College and formally to open this superb facility that enhances the
College’s reputation for providing a first-class education in
outstanding facilities.”
Lord MacLaurin, Chairman of the Malvern College Council, said: “The
newest addition to the College is part of our vision and detailed
development plan to provide the best education for our pupils in the
finest facilities. The Carson Centre is part of a development that will
also provide two new boarding houses, a state-of-the-art sports
complex, an all-weather athletics track and modern changing facilities. Malvern College has long enjoyed an enviable international reputation
for academic excellence, and the new teaching facilities will further
strengthen this position.”
Construction began last July and was completed both within budget and
on time. Architects Squires & Brown completed the design and the
building contractors were Speller Metcalfe.
