Parents Notice Board
This expedition will be an exciting joint venture between several teaching departments and as such will involve staff from different subject areas who will bring their expertise in their individual fields to look at aspects of the environment, culture, people and history of Vietnam.
The proposed trip will include two days travelling and ten days exploring Vietnam. During the trip we hope to take in the splendid and varied terrain of Vietnam. We will visit the capital Hanoi and the remote and mountainous hill tribe region in the far north of the country close to the border with China. We will then travel via Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An in the centre of Vietnam to visit Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and the Mekong Delta where all life is based around this vast river system. There will also be time to visit the Viet Cong tunnels at Cu Chi to remind us of Vietnam’s more recent history and the war with America. Although not directly linked to any specific aspects of any school syllabus, the trip will allow students the opportunity to use their experiences in Vietnam to gain a broader understanding of environmental, cultural and historical issues in South East Asia.
The school will be using the travel company Casterbridge Tours, who have extensive experience in providing high quality field trips for schools and who also organized the China and Namibia tours so successfully. The proposed dates for the trip are 9th – 20th December 2008 and the estimated cost of the tour will be in the region of £1800 (dependent on the size of the party, availability of flights etc.). Dates are at this stage provisional but will be confirmed soon. We will arrange for a representative from Casterbridge Tours to give a presentation to the College (parents and students are all very welcome) about Vietnam and our proposed trip in the near future. If you would like to reserve a place on the trip for your son or daughter please complete the attached form and return it to Mr. C. Hall (Head of Science and Biology) soon as places are likely to fill up rapidly. If you have any queries or if you wish to find out more please do not hesitate to contact the group leaders Mr. C. Hall and Mrs. J. Cockbill.
