some of the Oxbridge Candidates
Malvern College is celebrating one of its best set of Oxbridge results in recent history with 19 of its pupils gaining places at Oxford and Cambridge. It is also pleased that a third of the total had previously been pupils at its junior school, Hillstone.

Six of the nineteen are from local families. Joy Brewitt-Taylor has been offered a place at Selwyn College Cambridge to read Economics, Alice Howick Clare Cambridge for Music, Olivia Ide Downing Cambridge to read Oriental Studies & Middle Eastern Archaeology, Colwyn Lim Christ’s Cambridge for Archaeology & Anthropology, David Ponting Clare Cambridge for Natural Sciences and Gregory Swinford who has been offered a place at Selwyn Cambridge to read music has also won a choral award and will be singing in the College’s choir.

Martin Frayn, the Head of Sixth Form praised the efforts of all concerned and said, “this is a great achievement for Malvern College given the increasing level of competition for places at Oxford and Cambridge not only from the maintained sector but also from overseas. They are world class institutions who are looking for the best students and for the College to get so many in for such a wide range of subjects is a cause for celebration. ” Other subject areas where Malvern candidates were successful included History, Classics, Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Law, Computer Science, Architecture, Medicine and Modern Languages. Mr Frayn also commented on the fact that 13 of the 19 are studying for the International Baccalaureate Diploma rather than A levels. Malvern has established itself as one of the leading schools in the country for the International Baccalaureate which provides a broad-based all round education which is proving increasingly popular with the universities.
