| Georgie Bolton on 'Maesyfron Rhett' |
Georgie qualified her welsh pony ‘Rhett’ for the British Dressage National Championships of 2005 at Medium Restricted level. Dressage competitions are graded according to the difficulty of the movements within the test, which in turn relate to the level of training of the horse or pony. Levels are from Preliminary, the lowest, to Grand Prix at the highest level. Medium sits about half way up the scale.
To qualify Georgie needed to win a minimum of two classes at the level on a score of at least 65% during the spring and summer months before the end of June. She was then eligible to compete at the Regional Championships where she competed against qualifiers from a region covering from Gloucestershire to Hampshire. A place in the top twenty five combinations from all over the country, taken from the leading riders in seven regional championships including Scotland and Wales, ensured that Georgie earned a place at the National Championships held at Stoneleigh Warwickshire over four days in mid September.
One of the youngest riders to compete at the Nationals, which is dominated by adult riders, Georgie then earned eighth place in her Medium Restricted Championship.
This achievement is something that many riders strive a life time to achieve. To qualify for the ‘Nationals’ is every Dressage rider’s aim. To ride at the ‘Nationals’ and to achieve a place in the top ten in the country is a ‘dream come true’.
Georgie’s trainer says she has worked extremely hard to gain her success and remains unassuming about her considerable achievement, which is due to her hard work and talent.
