A report by Ball organiser Nancy Schlaegel
Judging from the faces at the ball and the comments afterwards, this year’s Charities Ball was a great success. After many weeks of preparation, and nervous anticipation after last year’s unlucky power-cut, all the hard work was rewarded as soon as the doors to St Edmund’s Hall opened at 8pm.
The girls looked stunning in their ball gowns with black in all lengths and shapes making a comeback, and the guys perfected their look of “young cool” in black tie with ruffled hair. The sound and lighting technology worked a treat with speakers and lights distributed across St. Edmund’s Hall, and additional special effects such as lasers, strobe light and smoke contributed to a distinct disco feel on the dance floor. An eclectic choice of old and new music covering a wide range of styles kept the crowd on their feet, and for those who wanted a rest or a mingle with friends and our guests from Malvern Girls College and from St. James the Sixth Form Centre facilities downstairs from St. Edmund’s Hall offered a reasonably quiet environment. There were a variety of soft drinks for re-hydration but water proved more popular. The excellent atmosphere at the Ball was maintained through until the end. Even the supervisory staff commented on having had an enjoyable evening. The icing on the cake is that those present were also raising a considerable sum for charity.
Lastly, if it is true that nice people have nice parties, the people at the CVS Ball 2005 were particularly nice!
