Christian Elsden (No.1 Lower Sixth) was given special permission to spend a day away from school this term. A talented College and currently Worcestershire County U17 cricket player, Christian had a fantastic opportunity to spend the day training with the England A team players at the National Cricket Academy in Loughborough.

There were just ten places available on the training day which was organised by the England A team in support of the Cricket Against Hunger programme, ahead of their tour of Bangladesh in February. The days activities included a tour of the National Cricket Academy facility, Nets with the England A players under the supervision of Academy coaches Andy Flower, Otis Gibson and Peter Moores, a fielding session conducted by ECB fielding coach Julian Fountain, a gym session overseen by ECB conditioning coach Richard Smith and a recovery session, including hydrotherapy treatment routines.

Christian has played in both the College 1st cricket team and Worcestershire County representative age group teams for the past 3 seasons and this year opens the bowling for both the College and the Worcestershire U17 County cricket sides. A talented player, Christian has the best County bowling average in his age group and is looking forward to another successful cricket season this summer.

Christian is the first Malvern College pupil to train at the England Academy and was determined to make the most of the chance. He said “I thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was an excellent opportunity to experience and observe the England teams preparation & training routines at close quarters. I was able to receive expert guidance and instruction upon my bowling action whilst being measured against the standards expected of players who are representing England in Bangladesh and possibly the Cricket World Cup in the West Indies during March. I am concentrating upon using the insights I obtained to further improve my abilities and consistency".
