The principal aim of the Careers Department at Malvern is to help and support pupils when making important decisions about their future. Pupils are encouraged to work closely with the Head of Careers, their tutor, housemaster or mistress and subject teachers who all provide a network of support in terms of information, resources and advice.
The Careers and supporting staff recognise that pupils can feel overwhelmed when making Career decisions and university course choices. Malvern aims to provide a sensible and well thought out approach to help each pupil make the choices that are right for them. It is recognised that in an ever-changing international climate, careers advice is needed on an on-going basis and so pupils are welcome to continue to seek our help until they reach the age of 23. Malvern College is a member of ISCO - the Independent Schools Careers Organisation.
Work Experience
All lower sixth pupils are expected to make the most of the exciting opportunities available in the world of work by spending at least one week on a work experience placement during the year.
Universities and Gap Year Choices
A growing number of students now take a gap year between school and university. The well stocked Careers library has information about many schemes and organisations and pupils are helped to make appropriate choices.
The great majority of pupils decide to continue their education at university after school. As a result of the carefully managed programme of information and advice, most of the students do get to the university of their first or second choice. Should any pupil not be successful, the Head of Careers is always available in school to help when results are received in August. The Careers Department provides excellent service to the pupils with staff always on hand for an informal chat or in depth discussions.
