The Chapman Technology Centre has excellent facilities and staff, with an extensive range of interests and expertise, offer a wide range of courses in Design and Technology. The building is purpose built and adjoins the Art Department with which there are strong links.
There are specialist areas for traditional resistant materials, food, textiles, systems and control, ICT as well as for Computer Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM).
The Centre is open to any pupil after lessons in the afternoon, Monday to Saturday, until 6pm and also Sunday afternoons. Pupils may continue to work on their academic assignments or may wish to do some work for pleasure. Technology is on offer to all pupils in the Senior School as well as the last two years of the Preparatory School, Hillstone.
In the Foundation Year (Year 9), Technology is a compulsory component of the timetable and all pupils will experience all aspects of Technology through short practical based tasks and projects. At the end of this year pupils may opt to continue with Technology and to then follow it through for GCSE where they will specialise in either Resistant Materials or Graphic Products. In the Sixth Form students may follow either the A/S and A2 courses in Product Design or they can follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) at Standard Level.
