Boarding forms an important part of school life. One third of the boys and girls in Malvern College Preparatory School board in our two houses, one for boys and one for girls. Cherbourg, the boys’ house, is led by Lesley-Anne Tulley, an experienced housemistress, who is supported by male staff and two matrons. The Headmaster’s wife, Judith Moody spearheads Southlands and she, too, is assisted by two matrons. Nearly all our boarders are full time, with varied activities organised throughout each weekend, but occasional boarders are welcomed, so long as bed space is available.
Boarding at the Prep School is rather special. Boys and girls receive superb pastoral care which provides reassuring support. The two boarding houses, Cherbourg for boys, Southlands for girls, provide a homely, welcoming atmosphere in which housemistress 'mums' ensure the children are happy.
The views expressed by present and former pupils confirm that boarding at Malvern College Preparatory School is, for many, the highlight of their time with us. They talk fondly about the boarding house as an extended family or home from home. Additionally, the loyalty they show to each other builds friendships that are long lasting. House meetings over pot-noodles and hot chocolate remain an abiding memory for many Malvern College Prep School boarders!
Our boarders enjoy very pleasant accommodation where the dormitories are airy but cosy. Both houses have the benefit of wonderful views across the vale of Evesham.
There is a full programme of activities at weekends for boarders, which include outings to nearby safari or amusement parks, ice-skating, bowling or simply walking on the Malvern Hills.
Contact with home is naturally important to our boarders. They communicate with home by telephone, letter and email.
Our approach to boarding is flexible and allows day pupils to try boarding to see if it suits them. We also offer a certain flexibility regarding day-pupil collection times in the evenings.
