Fifty pupils from Years 5 and 6 descended on the National Gallery of Wales in Cardiff for a day of art appreciation and drawing. They were able to see original art works by famous artists such as Monet, Degas, Gauguin and Van Gogh. The children were encouraged to talk about the art work on display, make written notes and sketch in their sketch books.

There was much to appeal to everybody's taste and artistic preference; paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture. It was encouraging to see the pupils responding to such a diverse range of work. The impressionist paintings by Claude Monet were used as the main focus for discussion.
