Malvern Pre-Prep
Within the Pre-Prep, there is a nursery that caters for the youngest children. The Early Years team provide a secure, organised and stimulating environment where pupils from the age of two are encouraged to develop their individual strengths.
From the age of three the curriculum is extended to include French and swimming, ballet and modern dance is also introduced as an extra curricular activity.
Music plays an important part in their curriculum. They all undertake a variety of musical activities. Pupils are taught the ‘da Capo’ music by the Head of Strings at Malvern College and our music specialists teach singing. All children take part in the autumn term production and our summer soiree.
The Nursery Curriculum
In the Nursery we follow the Foundation Stage Guidelines, this qualifies us to receive nursery grant funding for our 3 and 4 year old pupils as laid down by the government. Here there are 6 areas of learning that the children in Nursery will visit regularly. These areas of learning are continued into the Reception class where the Foundation Stage is worked closely with the Pre-Prep curriculum to ensure a smooth transition into Key Stage 1.
These 6 areas of learning are under the headings: - Personal, social and emotional development - Communication, language and literacy - Mathematical development - Knowledge and understanding of the world - Physical development - Creative development
Pupils in the Nursery are introduced to these areas of learning through a wealth of experiences some of these activities would be, number, pre writing skills, phonic activities, music singing, role play and many more besides. Daily art and craft and exploration of the world around them. As the Pre-Nursery pupils move on to the Nursery they have a more structured day with plenty of opportunities for learning through free play. Our fully qualified teachers and teaching assistants are supported by specialist staff from the prep and senior school in the areas of music, singing, swimming, games and French.
As the year draws to a close the pupils work closely with the Reception class to ensure a smooth transition into full time education. Here the foundation curriculum continues to give the children a wide breadth of everyday experiences.
