Colts win again!

The Colts had another successful game against Winterfold this week. In what turned out to be an extremely exciting end to the game, with Malvern Prep just winning by one run!

In the 20/20 over game we put Winterfold in to bat first.  Hugo opened the attack with some very tight bowling and Alex D was right on target immediately, taking a wicket in his first two overs.  Chris then took the attack and, he also, got a quick wicket.  At ten overs Winterfold were struggling for runs and Hugo took over wicket keeping duties from Tom W, having only conceded 6 runs from his 4 overs - very impressive.  Tom W kept up the pressure with tight bowling and getting a wicket and, after Winterfold's overs they had scored only 56.

MCPS then went into bat and Tom W and Chris were starting to look comfortable batting - taking steady runs when available - when we went into tea.  Coming out, things took a dramatic change.  With a new bowler taking 3 wickets in his first over, and then a couple of more in the next overs, we were looking decidedly on the back foot now, and it was a case of doing our best to remain at the crease.  We were down to our last batsmen when the last over came about.  3 runs were needed to win.  Tiger and Jamie T were the batsmen needing to take up the challenge.  After 3 balls gone we were no further forward and it looked like it would be a win for Winterfold. 1 run was taken on the fourth ball. The fifth ball was a dot (no run for those not into cricket!) so it was 1 to draw and 2 to win the game from the last ball of the innings.  Tiger was facing - he hit the ball and ran.  The fielders were desperate to get the ball in and, either get a run out or, at least, tie, but no, a miss field meant that another run was available and the MCPS boys took it!  We'd won! By just 1 run on the last ball of the game. What excitement!
