Years 5 & 6 art trip to Compton Verney
Years 5 and 6 spent a day at Compton Verney Art Gallery in Warwickshire recently. The morning was spent discussing and sketching some amazing landscape paintings, some of which were from the Royal Academy collection, depicting a range of scenes from the dramatic to the sublime. Pupils saw figurative works by many artists including Constable and Gainsborough, as well as semi-figurative and abstract paintings. The afternoon was spent creating their own mysterious landscapes which were later finished off at school. Some days later, the senior boarders spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon at Compton Verney, during which they saw ancient Chinese terracotta and bronze artefacts, landscape and portrait paintings, an array of folk art objects and also played a 300-year-old game of 1-2-3 in the grand, marble-tiled entrance room to the mansion. Nigel, the guide, was very knowledgeable and brought the collection alive with his stories.

Visit to local Sixth Form students' Art Exhibition

Each pupil was asked to vote for their favourite art work. Pupils also chose an art work to discuss in front of the rest of the class. 'Every one of them was inspirational!' said Sophie, Year 6.
