Music at Malvern College Prep School
At Malvern College Prep School, pupils are encouraged to explore their musical talents fully. Besides a fully resourced orchestra and the main choir of over forty pupils, the music department also runs the more specialist chamber choir as well as a junior choir, comprising all pupils in Years 3 - 5.
Over half the pupils learn at least one musical instrument and about twenty visiting music teachers provide individual tuition. Individual practice rooms are available for pupils.
For pupils in Year 3 wishing to start a musical instrument, we recommend that this be considered in the summer term of Year 3. This enables pupils to adjust to the new routine and the longer school day before starting a new instrument. Pupils in Year 3 already playing will of course continue.
There are regular informal and formal music concerts at school as well as performances at other venues locally and further afield. Our children work very hard for these events and parents are encouraged to support whenever possible.

Budding musicians in debut concert
Performers and audience alike recently enjoyed the two informal concerts at Malvern Prep, which regularly give the children of all ages and musical levels in the school the important chance to perfrom in public. Year 2 violinists from Pre-Prep made their debut at the junior concert in the Assembly Hall, where, supported by their teacher Mrs Sue Hill, they performed three short pieces before their enthusiastic audience of parents, relatives and friends. They have only been playing since September and this first public ‘outing’ gave them a valuable experience.

Summer concert ends on a high note
The annual summer concert is always a major performance highlight of the school year. This year's concert was performed (as previously) in 'Big School' at Malvern College before an packed audience of some five hundred parents and friends. Every pupil in the Prep School took part, with a substantial number of the older children from Pre-Prep, all clearly showing a huge range of talent and enthusiasm for making music, whether sung or played. Music Director Lesley Hunter thanked the many peripatetic music teachers who help bring on such talent, whereby more than two-thirds of the pupils learn at least one musical instrument. The highlight was the finale, in which every performer took part, helping raise the roof of Big School, and ending the school year on a memorable, high note.
