Success on the horses
Year 8 pupil Jo G. reports on her recent success on horseback:
‘This picture is of my pony and me, winning 2nd place out of roughly 200 competitors. I was in a team called the ‘Malvern Pony Club Diamonds’. We were Malvern’s ‘B’ team so we were shocked when we came 2nd and the ‘A’ team came 3rd! It was a very tricky course and the jumps were 1 metre high and 1 metre apart when they were spreads. All of our team had clear rounds apart from one where they jumped through the planks instead of over them! All in all, a marvellous day!’
Many congratulations to Jo - and her pony!

Swimming strengths
Outside school, many children participate in activities we hope have been encouraged through opportunities experienced at school. At the recent Ledbury Swimming Club gala, James N won three medals for various events, including silvers for the 9yrs 200m backstroke and 50m freestyle, and bronze for 100m butterfly and his brother Ollie (in Pre-Prep) won his heat in the 25m frontcrawl. Ben L won the 11/12yr 100m butterfly cup at the same gala. It is very pleasing for us to note that this cup was won by another Malvern Prep School pupil in past years, which demonstrates the continued ability in swimming of many of our children here. Club swimming takes commitment and hard work and we all benefit from their efforts. Well done, to them both!

Herefordshire Festival success in speech and drama
All fifty-three Speech and Drama pupils from Malvern College Prep
entered classes in the Herefordshire Festival this year, a year in
which the Festival had a record 1,700 entries in total. We had some
notable successes, winning twenty-six medals for first, second and
third placings, and some very high marks besides, including for
creative writing. Natasha M was particularly commended for her portrayal of Shakespeare's
Juliet in what is not her first language; words of praise and
encouragement also for Will K from the adjudicator for his public
speaking entry, about his pets; and from our youngest entrants, Tom H
and Tanya J from Years 3 and 4, an exceptional achievement in winning
bronze for their duologue, in a class of entries from children as old
as Year 6! Overall, an excellent showing from a talented and
hard-working group. Encore!
