A bouquet of dramatic talent!

Jun 19, 2007, 11:23

The end of the academic year looms, and with it the eccentric drama sketches which seem to accompany this time of year as naturally as the English summer. For example: a whodunit, starring an assortment of policemen, punks, ladies, suspects and - of course! - a butler; a trio of time-travellers; assorted fairy stories, fishermen, crooks, cartoon characters, and a chorus of Cats - the TS Eliot kind!

The awesome team behind the Panto "Ellie & Nellie"!
The whole is festooned with Shakespeare, poetry and improvisation - a rich ground from which this spray of summer blooms springs! A selection of these blooms ornamented the Poetry and Prose Reading and Speaking Competition and will be on show in the Grandparents' Day Drama Showcase coming up in Week 10, so parents and grandparents will have the opportunity to admire the talent which flourishes in our pupils' imaginations - and this after an outstanding pantomime this week from the Year 8 'stayers' which, in their own words, was "a riot of laughter and romance". We look forward to seeing these fragrant offerings in full flower!

The Poetry and Prose Reading and Speaking Competition took place on Monday 25th June in the Assembly Hall at which the visiting adjudicator was Mr Keith Packham, who takes over as Head of Drama at Malvern College next term. Winners were: Junior - Sebastian Thurlow and Alexander Tocher; Intermediate - Holly Hobson; Senior (and joint winners of the Norbury Cup) - Henry Dodson, William Law and Emily Lister.

The Grandparents' Day Drama Showcase was an informal confection of dance and drama items - a sort of café theatre without the coffee, street drama without the traffic - during which a variety of gems were on show. The showcase took place on Tuesday 26th June, in the Margaret Prior Hall before an enthusiastic audience of pupils, parents, friends, and - most importantly - grandparents!
