Forest School - combined staff activity
Apr 14, 2008, 11:05
During the school holidays, Malvern College Pre-Prep staff and The Downs
Kindergarten staff donned their waterproofs and wellies and spent a few
hours in The Firs doing a Forest School session. It was a wonderful
opportunity for the staff to get to know each other and for Gigi,
Vivien and Kirsten to experience our Forest School.
We all had jobs allocated to us - just as the pupils do - and then made our way up to the Firs. Alex, the ‘sign and stick’, lady opened the gate for us and we trooped through, being careful to remember our ‘Thank yous’! Alex was then given the stick, which she had to carry correctly. On arrival we had to hoist the flag and sing our song.
On entering the Forest School, we put our bags under cover. We then introduced the girls to the game ‘1,2,3, where are you?’ - a hide and seek game – great fun! We than had to gather wood to light the fire ready for lunch. While Julie cooked our lunch, our next task was to build a shelter for our cuddly toys. You can see our creatures were very pleased.
Lunch was curry and crusty bread around the fire. The rain didn’t worry us, but smoke followed Gigi wherever she decided to sit. After much chatter about Forest School and how we do things, we had a final game before returning to Pre-Prep.
Everyone had had a thoroughly enjoyable time and all agreed that the children would enjoy this weekly experience next year at the new school. The Downs’ Year 8 pupils will be working on our Forest School area preparing it for us prior to us starting in September.
