No.5 Do The Double!

Dec 10, 2003, 13:21

In 2002 No. 7 became the first House in 41 years to complete the Senior House and Junior House football ‘double’. Amazingly it has taken just one year for the feat to be repeated, this time by House No.5.

No.5 Senior Team
In The Senior House trophy final, No.5’s opposition was No.2. On paper the teams looked evenly matched and a fiercely contested match was in prospect. This turned out to be the case in the early exchanges and the game was evenly balanced for the first ten minutes. It was then that No.2 started to apply pressure and they deservedly went ahead after some fine work by Nichols on the right led to a cross which was neatly tucked away by Merton-Jones. With much of the game being played in No.5’s half it was perhaps inevitable that another goal would come along. It did, courtesy of Colwyn Lim.
At half time No.2, with the cushion of a two-goal lead, looked to have a considerable advantage

During the first half the No.2 goalkeeper had been rather inactive. No.5 began the second half more determined with a specific objective to test the No.2 keeper, even from long range. This they did to dramatic effect as one speculative free kick from 30 metres found the net. Their domination of the half led to a total of four goals. Oliver Griffiths scored a hat trick whilst Josh Bevan got the fourth. Final score: 4 - 2

No.5 Junior Team
The Junior House final was contested between No.5 and No.1. This was also a match of two halves. In the first half it was a close contest and at half time the teams were locked at one goal each. However, in the second half with No.1 playing ‘uphill’ No.5 were in the ascendency. Their patient square ball build up was beginning to pay off and they netted a further three times for a convincing win. Their goals were scored by King, Brierly, Brentnall and Smith. The reply from No.1 was scored by Breck. Final score: 4 - 1
