Q. What is the pupil/teacher ratio in the school?

A. Approximately 8:1

A. The ratio of boys to girls in class varies according to subject. The ratio of boys to girls in the school is 2:1

Q.How many pupils are there in the school?

A. There are 600 pupils in the school

Q. Are there many activities going on over the weekend?

A. There is a full morning of lessons on Saturdays and the afternoon involves school sports matches and other optional games. On Sundays there is a choice between College Chapel or a secular forum. Other activities include such things as five-a-side football or Chess Club.

Q. Can we visit during the term and take our son/daughter out?

A. Yes. We are totally flexible and encourage parents to take their son or daughter out.

Q. What is the atmosphere like at the school/in the House?

A.We pride ourselves on being a friendly school. This is reflected in the warm, homely atmosphere of the boarding houses. Visitors to the College and our own pupils endorse our belief.

Q. How easy is it to settle in?

A. It is very easy for new pupils to settle in. A sensitive induction period ensures that new arrivals quickly become 'one of the family'.


Q. How big is the Sixth Form?
A. There are approximately 310 pupils in the Sixth Form.


Q. What is the International Baccalaureate and why do some students choose this instead of A levels? How long have you been running it?
A. The IB is an alternative, pre-university course to A-levels. It provides greater breadth than A-levels and is acceptable in universities around the world. We have fifteen years experience of running the IB


Q. Is there a school doctor? Are they male or female?

A. There are two school doctors, one male and one female. In addition, there are four fully trained and experienced nurses in our medical centre.

Q. How much guidance and support will my son/daughter receive?

A. At Malvern, we provide extensive pastoral care which ensures that every girl or boy receives excellent guidance and support. In addition to the House staff, each pupil has a tutor with whom they meet every week. There is always someone on hand to provide a high level of support. In the Sixth Form pupils choose a member of the teaching staff to be their personal tutor-mentor. This member of the teaching staff provides guidance with UCAS application and choice of university
