Why Choose Malvern?
Community Service - caring for others
Oct 22, 2003, 14:18
At Malvern College we believe in taking the concept of caring for others out into the local community. On Tuesday afternoons, over 300 pupils are engaged in Community Service. Some of the activities undertaken under the aegis of Community Service (CS) benefit individual pupils (e.g. cookery, expedition training) but many more serve the broader school community (e.g. re-cycling, theatre help); and the majority of activities are aimed at responding to the needs of the local people.
We liaise closely with Age Concern, Community Action, Malvern Hills Conservators and Malvern Hills Homeless Young Adults Trust.
One of our most successful ventures is the provision of foreign students who run language clubs in about a dozen local primary schools.
We are currently looking into the possibility of liaising with foreign schools on Community Service, under the auspices of the International Baccalaureate programme.
