Religious Studies is taught as a part of the Core Curriculum in the Foundation Year (year 9), Remove (year 10) and Hundred (year 11). The majority of pupils take the GCSE "Short Course" qualification at the end of the Remove Year, following the AQA course "Thinking about God and Morality". Despite sitting this examination a year early, pupils achieve high grades.
In the Foundation Year pupils study world faiths, including Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. In the Remove and Hundred, those not sitting the GCSE study philosophy of religion and ethics. The whole experience is designed to encourage pupils to think deeply about first order issues such as the existence of God and religious commitment and practical topics such as the life and practice of a faith and its influence on ethical behaviour.
There is, of course, no subject on the curriculum more relevant and fundamental to our pupils' lives both in College and beyond! In the Sixth Form the AS and A2 course comprises a study of the Philosophy of Religion and Buddhism. It is equally accessible to those who practice a faith, the agnostic and the atheist.
